Did you know that all you have to do to find the intercept of an equation is to plug a number in for a specific variable?
Yep, it’s that simple. All we have to do is evaluate the equation.
All this means is that whichever variable (x or y) we are trying to solve for, we just plug in zero for the other variable!
Now, intercepts are where an equation crosses the axis on the coordinate plane.
The y-intercept is where the graph crosses the y-axis and the x-intercept is where the graph crosses the x-axis.
Did you know that sometimes x-intercepts are also called solutions or roots or zeroes of an equation?
In fact, I agree with how Purple Math nicely encourages us to think of these terms interchangeably.
Together we will walk through 11 examples in detail, and see how easy it is to verify the solution of an equation, as well as how to find both the x-and y-intercepts of an equation and then draw a line with the given intercepts.
